Dr. Yasuhiko Tomino is Professor Emeritus of Juntendo University in Tokyo, Japan. He has studied IgA nephropathy for 50 years and has obtained several significant findings in the field of pathology, immunology, and molecular biology which shed a lot of light on the mechanisms that cause the development and progression of this disease. He also undertook new treatments for patients with IgA nephropathy by using animal models and immunopathological examinations of human renal biopsy specimens. Dr. Tomino’s IgA nephropathy publications include 177 papers and three edited books in English. He has worked with many young Nephrologists from Asian Pacific Countries. In 2014, he and his colleagues held 14th Asian Pacific Congress of Nephrology (APCN) in Tokyo. Since his retirement from Juntendo University in 2015, he continues to manage care for hemodialysis patients as the President of the Medical Corporation SHOWAKAI.
